The Space Whale of Bantam Lake

I’m gambling that I never forget The simplicity of a tape cassette In a world of confident conjecture Life becomes all about texture When 24/7 they argue the toss Each minute becomes an unbearable loss That’s why I noisily refuse to reject the things they want me to lose Be the weeds they can’t destroy Be the breeze they can’t employ Be the few seeds left after they destroy Be rough and ready, tactile joy Alone in the mint green room, I’m young A piano, thin carpet, the concrete won Discordant memories that just leave questions years later I still discard your suggestions Be the sky above tower as it’s getting late Be the creature leaving it all up to fate Be the black oily surface of Bantam lake Support what you love don’t share what you hate

I have lived around here Most of my days Also spent some time Out in Santa Fe A brief stint in the army I had bills to pay But I live on the lake now Up here on the lake now You can see me most days on the lake I see plenty of goings on From my old folding chair Cars bikes and boats Some in need of repair Families and tourists Sometimes Rabbits and bears Mostly Birds and fish at the lake though Mostly Birds and fish at the lake though I live at the lake you know I live at the lake People know me here They ask me what I’ve seen The nights when the sky is clear I’ve seen a few things I’ve got stories to tell And if you see me around I will wish you well But if you ask me about this I’ll smile and just wish you well Late one night A local motorist made claims state trooper 10 miles away Confirmed they were not playing games Everyone looking at me to see if I saw the same Was it real or was it fake The space whale of bantam lake Was it the meteor shower or one big mistake

Heading somewhere new Wide eyed and full of tea Some expectations but mostly excitement at what might come to be The place you leave is smaller and more insignificant than anyone wants to admit You realise fighting the ego of measurements Matters not one single bit You hit the language barrier Before you hit the ground Even when they do most won’t mention that they want you to stick around Learn to time your landing With press and local police It’ll be an age and then some Before all these conspiracies cease Welcome to the water Welcome to where you’ve been hurled Welcome to anywhere other than what you imagine On any other world Welcome to the land Use all that you’ve learned It won’t be made easy hold on to horizons And hope to never be returned Returned to the water They make a show of it But put in the least they have to do You’ll get quite used to a Future that’s loose With this ragtag disparate crew It’s more than we can hope for When a whole town works as one Even if the results will prove That very little actually gets done

Right away it’s clear the Method isn’t right you’ve Kept the dream alive but All around is noise and People in the woodwork Don’t make it something more We’ve written down the end Miles from the shore where Houses hide the prospect Of taking down the lead from High above the mass of bone and sweat and screams for more And when they come for you and They will come for you and They will come prepared for Conflict and confusion and Between the smoke and mirrors we Dangle an illusion make of it what you will As You’ve got time to kill where We’ve buried all the trinkets that we Lost inside our memories While high above we still hear Cries and screams for more
5.
In the grand scheme of things You were gone in a blink of an eye but in-between your long eyelashes You were a reason why And all the monstrosities That are built up in our heads Make way for curiosities And a million separate threads Pull on each one for a moment And watch it quietly unravel Rake the topsoil on the road you’re least likely to travel And summon up the courage To stay right where you are Just you and me and the stars In the grand scheme of things What you saw may not be explained But in-between those quiet lost moments You were what remained And all the possibilities Written about despite their lack of legs Make way for our own ability To consider a million separate threads Pull on each one for a moment And watch it quietly unravel Rake the topsoil on the road you’re least likely to travel And summon up the courage To stay right where you are Just you and me and the stars

Be the brightest version of yourself Show the world that you exist Hesitant at new, surprising information Over time we won’t resist I see you even if others leave you be You might be cosy in your corner But don’t you hide away from me We all have something we can offer We all have something we can do Unfurl your gorgeous colours A sequel to your radiant debut Sometimes it’s cruel and frightening Your gut is screaming at you flee I promise to try and make it safe for you If you don’t hide away from me Come out into the light Hold my hand tight There are wonders to be found If you look at things just right When you’ve met a fair few people When you’ve lived a year or two You can spot those who are exceptional and rare And I recognise that in you There are some too wrapped up in their own journey Some who will choose not too believe Together we are stronger we are better So don’t you hide away from me Ignore the noises in the background Find where you perfectly fit in No heart was ever won in silence I’ll show you the best place to begin Come out into the light Hold my hand tight There are wonders to be found If you look at things just right Be the brightest version of yourself Show the world you fly and I guarantee Every step after the first is easier When you don’t hide away from me

Germany 03:50
I want a midnight snack I want to never come back I want to have dreams curious and deep Give me a reason to stay asleep Can’t keep the dog down The gown restricts the gown I want to be Bowie in Germany I want a 35mm certainty The search is everything The search is over The search is everything The search is over Overexposure I want a good review I want a world in the image of you I was happy to get back in line Thirty more years to tend to the vine Photos on the tarmac Us and them under attack The next big sell out waiting in the wings A metamorphosis always stings The search is everything The search is over The search is everything The search is over Overexposure I want a midnight talking to I want a mirror I’ll go walking through Give me colours that creep Give me a reason to never sleep

Everything’s been done Everything’s been found We flounder in the sky We decimate the ground Chase the latest trends Chase the next best thing What are these choices that you cling to What is the phone that never rings And all we’re shown And all we’re told And all we’ve known And when we fold There is nothing but now There is nothing but you And that’ll do Everything is understood Everything is confusion We have this imitation We built a dark illusion Chase the next dollar Chase the wrong opinions Who is this walking surgery What is underneath the millions And all we’re shown And all we learn And all we’ve known And all we burn There is nothing but now There is nothing but you And that’ll do

about

So, one day, while we were checking out a groovy shop in Connecticut called Weirdo Wonderland, Eric the owner said to us
"So you must know about the Space Whale of Bantam Lake?!"
To our embarrassment we did not but something in those words sparked inspiration and lead to me googling said Space Whale and creating this 8 track concept album about that very subject.

Why not? Enjoy!

Miscellaneous Plumbing Fixtures New Milford, Connecticut

Songwriting and banging your instruments together

The main thing I love to do is write songs. I pick up various instruments from ukulele to piano, accordion to percussion and electric guitar to harmonica and bang them about to try and get close to the noises I hear in my head but the writing comes first. ... more
