Don’t Cultivate it Just Imitate it We saw you buying Brillo pads You kick started the future You made us mad This is the voice of Billy Name This is the voice of Billy Name And you’ll never be the same After fifteen minutes of fame This is the voice of Billy Name Don’t Innovate it Just Casually motivate it We saw you trying to find the frame Who knows how to work the lights Angry two chords again and again This is the voice of Billy Name This is the voice of Billy Name I was there, the gallery in flames Michigan fair grounds and great acclaim This is the voice of Billy Name She came from Germany They should be buried They renamed the building Coulda made it if you hurried She made her mark You kept it stark

All The Rage 05:13
Let me tell you what you mean to us In a way where no one really tells you Right at the moment when you need to hear it the most Let me break the part of you You didn’t know you really needed till it was gone
Let me keep advancing without reason or skill Let me move the line you’ve had Your sights on for so long it’s all the rage It’s all the rage You’re all the rage Let me work at finding everything you want Right at the moment when there’s no way to afford it Let me power through aimless and aggressive Handouts and incentives galore Let me keep my fingers crossed you keep doing what you’re doing Without intention to ever reward it Let me think you’re all replaceable if any of you ever realise What there is behind the door On the outside appear calm, while frantically defusing the bomb ticking away Someone will surely build a machine that will fix all of this one day

Without Us 04:34
I know you don’t want to be here But can you let it all go? Is it worth the aggravation? Is this the fine line that we tow? You could step up again But really what’s the point Armies make their move at sundown One more saviour left to anoint We see that desperation Behind every one of your jokes She was definitely here for a reason In a few years write it off as just another hoax Maybe we’ll all match tomorrow Maybe we’ll put our heads down Struggle to regain control of the vessel Before the women and children drown Could this all work without us Would the motor still turn over in our absence Will the moon fire rage on Will we still awake at dawn To find just a framework of all that we had once Pulled apart and carefully numbered Until the next one too becomes blurred We all know you tried your best Put on a brave face and battled the sponsors But your defences were badly out gunned Your supporters kept hidden and then unleashed all your monsters A half baked, compromise barely realised To the sound of thunderous applause No matter how you tried to bait them They wouldn’t give you your ending they loosened the laws This all barely worked before us And the motor was just fine in our absence The moon fires were all our imagination We wake cold and alone at the station To find just a framework of all that we had once Pulled apart and carefully stacked Until the next one too becomes blurry and cracked

I am the small, quiet, voice of reason All to myself I assume that, mostly, I still get it wrong The view from here, is not what it’s cracked up to be Why can’t we all Just get along I live out a hundred scenarios In the blink of an eye And conclude Somewhere deep Best leave them there I am in training against all distractions or I’d do nothing but cry Underneath the packaging Now impossible to tear Let’s find together Those wide open spaces Like those crime driven road trip movies From the 90s can’t the digital authorities Just let us be From the Arches in Arizona To the north western pine trees Hidden from radar Out in our old car It’s said there’s nothing sweeter Than a cancelled arrangement But that’s only if you know What to do with the time Like a cat in the bushes Be ready for the sweet rush of the kill Is it part of your nature or part of your pleasure That makes it a crime Let’s find together Those rare cosy corners And be the wild old couple that aid our hero In the final act Let us mind our own business We’ve tried it your way It’s a dead end full of destruction And you can’t take it back Hidden from prying eyes and adverts Here on the outskirts

I did my time My time in the city I fell in love We worked real hard Now give me a home A home in the country Peace and quiet A big back yard The city was good Good and exciting
I was younger I didn’t break But it has a way of telling you to move on Hand over the keys To the hungrier and louder Move to the country And now that I’m here I’m going get a big home And fill it up With all of my stuff I don’t care if it’s cliche Or not a dream of yours I hope that you’re happy I hope you stay tough Relentlessly middle class Don’t make me get off my arse There isn’t anything Anything you can tell me About the cities About all there is to do I did my time Surrounded by humanity But after all is said and done I need my space from most of you Because I’m already up here I’m going get a big home And fill it up With all of my stuff I don’t care if it’s cliche Or not a dream of yours I hope that you’re happy I hope you stay tough

I don’t want to go on forever Don’t forget to let me go Enough can be enough As fast as life can be sometimes it’s too slow Filled up with experiences Make each moment count But don’t beat yourself up when it doesn’t happen We only get a certain amount Change the embrace Push back at the winds You’ve found yourself here Where it begins But nothing stays static For very long Except the radio and the statues we don’t tear down I have a fear of the frailty of age And I don’t want to leave you all alone Relevance and acceptance are to be ignored at all cost Your departure time, they promise can always be postponed But don’t postpone it for me That’s not a place I ever want to be

about

You know the old story - me and the band were working on a big collaborative album and I had about six tracks ready to go and was writing more and more and then life gets in the way - Some of my collaborators got busy, I got busy, the holidays loomed etc. the usual... you know the score.

But then the last Bandcamp Friday of 2021 (possibly ever) was on the horizon and I really wanted to put something out.

I realised I had one demo, just me and the guitar, for a song called "Voice of Reason" that I had every intention of re-recording and building out for the band album but I really liked the demo. I liked the live performance of it. I liked the vibe.

So the original intention behind this release was to just do a bunch of new songs in a sort of semi-live, demo form, mostly just me and the acoustic guitar. Which is, more or less, what I did except I also added a few rough overdubs just to flesh the songs out a little.

Over the last week I managed to scrape every last tune and lyric I had lying around and to compliment "Voice Of Reason", I wrote 5 other songs. I kind of dug them all and didn't want to sit on them until the other album was ready, so they make up the six tracks you find here.

I hope you enjoy.

The band album is still coming but most likely in the first half of 2022.

Merry Christmas and all that bollocks.

Songwriting and banging your instruments together

The main thing I love to do is write songs. I pick up various instruments from ukulele to piano, accordion to percussion and electric guitar to harmonica and bang them about to try and get close to the noises I hear in my head but the writing comes first. ... more
